John:
Great question. I told you I would answer on blog.
John's question was about winter storage of race car.
I just went thru this myself, here is what I did.
I first started and drained water and lube out of radiator, I then filled up with about a 60/40 mix of antifreeze. I changed oil and put a basic 30 weight, non-detergant oil, with a bottle of Hyperlube. I then cycle car three times, bringing up to temp ( 200 ), top off antifreeze. I then pulled valve covers off, since I have a aluminum block and heads, I wiped all moistures off, sprayed a mist of oil on rockers and heads, backed off rockers 1 1/2 full turns, marked, and misted under covers.
Now it is set for winter, as a precaution, I also wrapped a blanket on motor, and placed a car cover on.
Complete. ( I also drained fuel out of system, disconnected battery and have it on a tender.
I put a list of what I did with a caution no start on instrument panel. Done.
When you are ready to start, go back thru list. Rockers, change oil, pull plugs and shoot 4-5 squirts of Marvel mystery oil down cyclanders, and go from there, and start your tune up, IE: plugs, race oil, timing, water pump lube, ect.
Please keep in mind, if you choose not to back off rockers, start up about once a month, prime first, bring up to temp a couple of times, pull valve covers off, check rockers, springs and look for moisture.
If you can store on jack stands, great, if not move car around to avoid flat spots. If you have a parchute, pull off of car and stretch it out for the season.
This maybe over kill, but it has worked for me for several years, if I had no need to pull motor.
Call me if you have any other questions, as well as other Dragfools.
Regards,
Christopher
