Valve Springs

Dale:

Funny we chatted about the same thing. I am in your current situation as well. I too have a newer motor, the problem is it sat for about 5 years and the rockers were not backed off.

Absolutely with out a dought replace them. You can test thje compression if you have the tools. But you will invest more time in tools and labor.

Springs should run around $300-$400. Considering how much you and I have in your motor, replace them.

Also with covers off and plugs out, oil down your cylanders, change the oil and filter, put some cheap oil in it, make sure you have the right grade. I am also a fan of Hyper lube, put in a quart and fire off engine after you have done work. Bring temp up, shut off and cool down, do again, and lastly repeat a third time. Check and adjust valves, check springs for any cracks, and inspect heads. Drain oil, and cut open filter and look for any shavings or excessive moisture. If you find excessive moisture, check the header outputs for any water, oil if it is milky. If not your good, but I would repeat steps again. Let system breathe and have covers off, wipe off any moisture if present, fill up with desired oil, check water level, make sure to add water pump lube, check all fittings and fuel lines, your ready to race.

Enjoy your season, please feel free to email me, and let me know how you are doing? Best of luck.

Regards,

Christopher
