Greetings Fellow Dragfools:
Ran into a fellow drag racer yesterday and had a few questions about getting car ready for the season. Love to chat and hear from you all.
Last season I suggested winter storage and what to do, as well as spring time readyness. Let's recap.
In my last blog, I want to stress the fact, look at your pull rig and trailor. This is one we all forget about. If your pull rig is a daily driver, you are probably fine, but still look at hitch and brakes, check all electrical components associted with towing, and ofcourse all fluids.
As for your car, those that stored with engine still in, and if you chose not to fire, time to drop oil, drop antifreeze and clean system out. If you backed off rockers, time to set, look at springs, studs, check for moisture. Shoot some oil down push rods. Pull plugs and shoot oil in cylanders as well.
Drain old fuel out of carb, look at seats and bowls, gaskets and linkage. Re-fill with fresh fuel.
Put in some non-deterant 30, and substitute one quart with a bottle of Hyperlube and fire off. Bring up to temp a couple of times, let cool down. During this, check all fittings, trans, rear end, tires, basicaly complete from head to toe, it's fun.
Then start your tune up and get ready for the season.
Most of you know your motors and cars well, these are just some basic quideines to follow. But please make sure that all the antifreeze is out of your cooling system. It really sucks when a hose blows off and coats the track.
Don, I hope that answers your question, glad to have you sign up.
Have fun, maybe we will see you out there this season?
Regards,
Christopher
